I write this the day after arriving back from one of the best things I have decided to do this year. I signed up for a fitness and wellbeing retreat run by Replenish You and hosted by the wonderful Carly Rowena. As you may or may not know, I can be incredibly shy around new people and sometimes find it hard to be myself until I have warmed up a little. So for me this was more than just a fitness retreat; I wanted to prove to myself I can do something completely out of my comfort zone and be absolutely fine.
I made the four hour car journey up to Leicestershire to be greeted to a humongous, beautiful house surrounded by sheep and fields. The manor was the perfect size for all of use and also had a workout studio, indoor swimming pool and hot tub.
We were lucky enough to have Alexandra Dudley cooking for us all weekend and the menu was all vegetarian and some dishes completely vegan. All day the house smelt of amazing homemade dishes and I came away with some inspiration for recipes to try.
We were absolutely spoiled with our goodie bags which contained a free hard copy of Carly’s #GetGorgeous guide, beauty products from The Body Shop, Glam Glow and Lancome, some bags of PopChips and some pieces for the new Active In Style Avenue C collection.
What did we get up to? The short answer is a lot! Friday night was a get to know each other scenario and we had a three course dinner followed by everyone bringing duvets down to the lounge to get comfy and chat some more. Before bed we did yin yoga which was the perfect end to the day.
On Saturday morning we woke up for breakfast at 08.30 followed by a country walk which turned out to be much muddier than expected! You can’t beat a brisk countryside walk though so I don’t think anyone minded. This was followed by free time before an amazing vegetable curry which was my favourite dish out of all of them. After lunch Carly did a sit down Q&A with us regarding all things fitness, health and wellbeing which was really interesting and motivating to listen to.
For the afternoon free time a small group of us decided to try out the hot tub which we managed to stay in for about ten minutes before we started getting pelted with rain! A fast-paced tabata workout was followed by dinner which was a Moroccan mezze with nice cream and brownie for dessert which we got to customise the toppings of – of course I went for all the chocolate. To finish the night we again brought down all of our duvets and had hilarious girly chats until we were all ready for bed.
Sunday morning rolled around which was kick started by a HIIT workout which was extremely challenging given Carly had worked us really hard the day before. This was followed by a much needed brunch and then it was time for us all to pack and make the journey home.
It may sound really trivial to some, but I am so happy I took the plunge to do something completely out of my comfort zone and prove to myself that I can cope in these sort of situations. And of course meeting Carly was unbelievable. If I could bottle up her energy, charisma and positivity I would!
