Sunday mornings stereotypically means breakfast in bed, relaxation, doing whatever you like in complete ease. For a lot of us out there however, Sunday can actually be a day of anxiety about the looming week. I have felt this way since my school days, but now I am actively trying to dispel that feeling by taking certain actions on Sunday to make the week feel a little less daunting. Self-care is something I want to make 2018 all about and this post will give you some ideas of what you can do to make Monday feel a little less scary:
PLAN YOUR WEEK
Buy yourself a journal or set up the calendar app on your phone. For me I love seeing my week planned out on paper in front of me. This year I am using a Happiness Planner which combines organisation with mindfulness.
Make a to-do list for the week, plan your meals if you like, schedule in your workouts. When everything is laid out in front of you it will make you feel more organised and ready to go.
SCHEDULE IN ME TIME
Self care was a buzzword floating around the internet during 2017; but I think it is such an important thing to remember to do. There seems to be a trend of wanting to look or be busy all the time which can work for some people, but for others we need a break whether that be scheduling in an evening after work to just completely chill or to treat ourselves to a hair appointment. Usually it’s the little things we do for ourselves which can be most beneficial.
TALK ABOUT IT
If there is something specific making you anxious for the week try and find someone you can confide in, whether that be a friend or family member. Or why not buy a journal and write down how you are feeling in there? Sometimes writing is easier and you can really express how you are feeling.
Boring? Yes. But needs must and Sunday can be the perfect day to do those less exciting admin and cleaning chores you’ve put off all week. Getting these things done will leave head space and time for more productivity and creativity during the week. A messy bed = a messy head. A tidy desk = a tidy mind.
LEARN TO SAY NO
This is something I personally find so difficult because I get that twang of guilt that follows me around all day, but it is something I want to get better at in 2018. We can’t please other people all the time; we also need to do what is best for ourselves. If there is something coming up in the week you wholeheartedly do not want to do, then you have the option to say no. Saying no does not make you a bad person if you feel it will affect you negatively; remember that!
DEFINE SOME OUTCOMES
Write down three goals you want to achieve by the end of the week. This can be anything in your work life or personal life. Having some bigger goals to work towards can help motivate you throughout the week to achieve great things, however small they seem.
